The Memory Shop

The most important things in the world are not things at all.

Ella Griffin's novel (2017) takes us on a familiar and emotional journey where a young woman, Nora Malone, needs to select and get rid of her grandparents' belongings before their house is sold. She decides to set up a temporary shop where she means to pair each object with a perfect owner. Escaping from heartache and without help from her mother, Nora will find a new destiny in Dublin she never expected.

The chapters are named after objects, each one will play a fundamental role in the characters' lives. Although some commonplace ocurrences are identifiable in the storyline, the beauty and vulnerability of each character makes this an entertaining read.

Dublin itself has a huge involvement in the novel. The contrast with big city's relationships and way of life, makes it sound enchanting, like out of a fairy tale book. It is through Dublin's quaint streets, coffeeshops and people that the plot comes alive and within reach to readers.

The Memory Shop is ideal if you are looking to get lost in a rediscovery story and get a bit nostalgic. This book will certainly make you thing about your own memories... and maybe give you a nudge if you need to declutter.
