Alexandria & Mount Vernon - East Coast Chronicles

Together with Georgetown, Alexandria originated as a tobacco port in the mid-1700s and has left a mark before DC flourished.

To this day, we can admire the display of brick sidewalks and lovely town houses helping us imagine what the atmosphere of the first American settlements must have looked like. With its characteristic New England style, this city maintains its relationship with the country's past.

Located near Mount Vernon, the estate where George Washington used to live, you may bike or hike on the trail leading there or take a sightseeing cruise or water taxi that can connect you also with D.C.

The once Torpedo Factory Arts Center in Alexandria's downtown is now a vibrant place where you can buy works from local artists, admire the galleries or take a course in its many workshops.

Walk King Street to enjoy the boutiques, restaurants and the waterfront views and discover all that Old Town Alexandria has to offer.

Not far away and overlooking the Potomac, Mount Vernon rises true to its name. At the mere sight of George Washington's home, you perceive already the majesty of the site. Listen to experienced guides as you tour the grounds and learn how the plantation house worked at the time. Now it is also available for renting and hosting fabulous events.
